Holy Cross provides numerous way for its members to volunteer. Below are all of the different committees that make us run smoothly. Each office lists its members and a description of that office. If you are a member of Holy Cross and would like to be on one of these committees, please contact someone on the Nominating Committee (listed below) or speak to Pastor Holland. Officers for the July 2009 to June 2010 church year. Officers of the Congregation
Board of Elders The Elders are responsible for the spiritual well-being of the church. They respond to the congregation's needs to make their worship meaningful. This may be in assisting the pastor in his duties, making social calls, visiting those in need, and other similar functions. Typically elders meet once a month to discuss current synodical issues and their effects on the congregation, share concerns of the congregation, and pray for the church. Elders also assist with communion. Elders are elected for a three-year term. Current elders:
Board of Trustees The Trustees are the caretakers of the physical church. They may do tasks as simple as changing light bulbs to painting lines in the parking lot to making recommendations of large-scale repair jobs. The current trustees:
Nominating Committee Members of this committee make recommendations to the church members of those who would make good candidates for various committees. Current members:
Endowment Fund Committee This committee researches financial options and invests the funds from church endowments.
Social Ministry Committee Social ministry brings to the congregation concerns about issues of human care. These can include opportunities to help those in a time of need, work on the food shelf, crisis nursery, homeless and womens' shelters, and so on.
Lutheran Women's Missionary League This is not a body unique to Holy Cross, but part of a larger organization in the Missouri Synod. Women in our church who volunteer with the LWML are Carol Anderson, Doris DuBois, and Joyce Baago. For more information on the LWML, visit their website at lwml.org.
Altar Guild Orders the flowers for the altar and changes the altar linens as needed during the changes in the church year.
