There is within us all a longing to be happy. It is often part of the conversation I have with myself and many times over with other people. What would make you happy?

One of the most persistent and widely believed delusions is that one person can make another happy. But no one can confer on me the fullness of life. That has to be my choice. I can enjoy the company of another person and in turn share my goodness with them, but I am ultimately responsible for my own happiness.

The fact is that no one can make me happy; nor can I make someone else happy. We each have to do that for ourselves. I have a friend who says he has put this sign next to his mirror, “You are looking at the face of the person who is responsible for your happiness today.”

Opening your clinched fist to receive the full experience of life can only happen if you decide to do it. If you are waiting for someone else to make that happen then you will be waiting for a long time.

God says to us, “I love you and want the best for you.” God has demonstrated that in the gift of His Son, Jesus, and in the blessings of forgiveness and hope. Now it is our calling to make God’s vision our own.

Today I will chose to find goodness and fulfillment in my journey with God and in that experience there will be a touch of happiness.
