Dear Friends in Christ,
Back and forth I went the other day looking for an address that I couldn’t find. My frustration was beginning to boil over. I quickly dismissed the idea of asking for directions. (You know the problem.) My main concern was did I have the right information or was it me?
After a few more times around the neighborhood, there it was. The address of the building in bold letters on a sign with an arrow pointing into the parking lot, this way. I had looked right past it, or worse, right at it and missed it. The problem was mine!
The building was there, the sign was fixed, the directions were correct. It was a glitch in me! As I tried to watch the road and look for the sign a small anxiety had arisen, and then began to grow. I began to tell myself, “You are not going to be able to find this place. “ After several more times around the block, myself talk got worse, “ What’s wrong with you, you’re so stupid!” Focused on myself, I could not focus on the sign.
Maybe this happens to you as well. Back and forth we go each day focused on our selves. As the anxiety rises, we can see nothing else. What if we could ease up a bit and understand that life is not a test but an adventure. It is a journey that we share with God and with each other.
I encourage you, as I encourage myself, today to turn your attention to the Lord. To hear again His promise, “I am with you,” and trust that He will give you wisdom and strength to face every new challenge. Nothing is going to happen to you today that has not passed through His hands.
When we are able to turn our attention away from our own anxieties we will see that the signs of God’s presence have been there all the time. Say something nice to yourself today. I think I will!
Blessings on your journey…..
