Dear Friends in Christ,
I saw this sign today: “The best exercise is walking with the Lord.” I agree. Whether you are in need of just a little tune-up or dealing with a problem of Olympic proportion, there is a great strength and help to be found in walking with the Lord.
However, it does take a little practice. Starting slowly is often the best policy. Give God the first thoughts of your day. When you wake, whisper a “Good morning, Lord, what adventure awaits us today?”
C.S. Lewis wrote, “It comes the very moment you wake up each morning. All your wishes and hopes for the day rush at you like wild animals. And the first job each morning consists simply in shoving them all back; in listening to that other voice, taking that other point of view, letting that other larger, stronger, quieter life come flowing in.” When that happens you have begun your walk.
And now as the day unfolds listen to the Lord. Talking to Him is certainly an important part of the journey but listening is the key. Dan Rather once asked Mother Teresa, “What do you say to God when you pray?” Mother Teresa answered quietly, “I listen.” Surprised, Rather tried again, “Well, then what does God say?” Mother Teresa smiled, “He listens.”
The Psalmist understood, “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10). So it occurs to me then that most of the time walking with the Lord is standing still. Standing still in our thoughts and pushing back our worries so we might hear Him say, “Come this way, all will be well.”
Blessings on your journey…..
