Dear Friends in Christ,
We cannot live our life backwards. It is always going forward. And as we mature it seems to go faster and faster.
How good it would be or how much smarter we would seem if we could go back in time to past troubles or big blunders and apply a strong dose of healthy experience. But we cannot.
Even when we try to pass along what we have learned to our children or to the next generation it usually does not work. Each person needs to have their own experience and learn at their own speed.
Soren Kierkegaard agreed. “Life can best be understood backwards,” he wrote, “but it must be lived forwards.”
One thing that helps me live forward as I look backward is to see the footsteps of God. I see those places in my life that were touched by God’s grace. Problems or circumstances that I could not figure out slowly became possible to navigate, not because of my great wisdom, but by God’s bringing it together.
So in these days when I am faced with what seems to be an impossible thing to solve, I ask myself, “Do you think this problem is too big for God?”
Someone once said, “Most of the big decisions we make in our life are made with too little information.” I agree. But we press on. Because as people of faith we live by hope and know that God’s love constantly surrounds us. Ask for the Lord’s help and be confident that you can make your way through anything.
Blessings on your journey…
